Superhero Research Paper

Picture
You are going to complete a research paper on a Super Hero that first appeared in a comic book.

Research Paper #1

This is the first of two formal MLA papers that you will write this term. This first paper is designed to introduce you to the research process and familiarize you with the MLA writing style. Research and analysis are intricate components of this class and there are several opportunities throughout this term to work on these skills. Educational integrity is stressed and you need to understand the operation of responsible writing. The process for this first paper will go as follows:

1--You will choose a superhero that originated in comic books.

2--The research conducted will revolve around six components:
a -- The history of comic books,
b -- the importance of comic book heroes in WWII,
c -- the history of your chosen superhero,
d -- a connection between the superhero and epic heroes from literature,
e -- biographical information on the creator(s) of the character, and
F--  a separate works cited page.

The entire body of paper will be a minimum of three pages and a maximum of five pages.

3--The works cited page is a separate page and will include a minimum of ten references. Why ten references? Because you need more than one reference for a topic to make sure that your information is credible. You have to make sure that the information that you get from one reference jibes with the information that you get at another reference.
4--Make sure to follow PEARLS when you write this paper.

Why do research on comic books? Because there are only five art forms that are native to America: the banjo, jazz, the musical comedy, the mystery novel, and the comic book. In this unit we will not only discover the research writing process, but also explore the history of comics. This is an often overlooked art form that has a rich history. You will learn the comic's humble beginnings, why super heroes entered WWII long before America did, how Congress nearly banned them in the 1950s, and go up to current comic trends. This is all the cool stuff they don't teach in your history class. You will also learn that the creators of superhero comics often get their inspiration from Greek and Norse mythology.

You will turn your finished paper into turnitim.com for grading. I will not accept late assignments.

Remember, the main purpose of this paper is to learn the MLA writing style. Without these skills in your intellectual toolbox, it will be a long and frustrating term.
